Biennale of Sydney

Today is the last day of the Biennale of Sydney. If you have not checked this out hop on a free boat at Circular Quay and head to Cockatoo Island.

Check out contemporary art displayed in unique spaces such as abandoned warehouses, convict build prison buildings and small victorian era houses. Modern art and really old stuff— This is next level !

Some pieces are just plain visually spectacular like the installation from Chinese (New York based) artist CAI GUO-QIANG.

The piece is called Inopportune: Stage One, 2004 and it involves nine cars and sequenced multichannel light tubes, dimensions variable. Check out the pics above.

WHY?
Honestly I love Nudie Jeans as much as the next guy. They fit like a glove and the superdrys are like a second skin. But what is it with every dude in Sydney rocking a pair? When you live in a city like Sydney it appears everything happens in waves and eventually everyone catches on and gets washed up in it. The early adopters rock a look, then the General Pants crowd get a hold of it…..Then boom! Bogans, Hipsters, Tweens, Oldies and everyone inbetween are all rocking swedish Denim.
This happened with Ksubi years ago also. Yes we are limted by choice but with a little digging SYDNEY SIDERS can find their own denim….
That being said Sydneysiders I reckon have a awesome style despite the offerings.
The next updates will be dedicated to Denim brands that are not KSUBI or NUDIE….love their $300 jeans…but when every brother and their father are rocking them it makes them unoriginal.
RANT OVER…

GET BLOWN away by SIA at the VODAFONE MTV AUSTRALIA AWARDS 2009
A few weeks ago MTV put together Australia’s definitive music spectacle. This year bands like the Killers, Fray, and Wolfmother performed in a jammed back and transformed convention centre (in Darling Habour). The acts rocked out MTV style with a light show, occasional pyro and spectacularly cool set. The presenters stage included a tunnel and a travelator. The event which makes the ARIA’s seem like a school assembly was hosted by Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz.
Despite the plethora of international acts present it was Aussie act SIA that really stole the show. The song Buttons managed to get the crowd worked up despite the fact that most of the audience was most likely exposed to her soulful voice for the first time.
The picture above is from their colorful performance. Click on the picture to be transferred to the official site where you can watch clips from the nights proceedings.
